Pacific Blue Cross now offers direct billing for Registered Clinical Counsellors (RCCs). As of July 11, 2025, Pacific Blue Cross no longer requires clients to pay upfront and submit their therapy claims for reimbursement. With approximately one in three British Columbians being Pacific Blue Cross members, this recent addition of direct billing for RCCs is a huge step in helping make therapy more accessible to roughly 1.7 million individuals. As Pacific Blue Cross is BC's largest health benefits provider, Vitality Collective has been advocating for direct billing for years. Does Pacific Blue Cross cover registered counsellors (RCCs)?
Many Pacific Blue Cross benefit plans do offer coverage for registered counsellors, but we do recommend checking the extent of your specific coverage for your plan. In order to be covered under Pacific Blue Cross, your clinical counselling sessions must be with a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) recognized by the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors or one of the other following colleges:

What is direct billing?
Even if you have coverage with Pacific Blue Cross, you may be required to cover upfront costs associated with your health providers services—unless your provider is registered for direct billing with Pacific Blue Cross like our BC clinical counselling clinic, Vitality Collective. Direct billing removes you, as the client, from having to deal with the fees from your provider. Rather than receiving an invoice for your therapy sessions, Vitality Collective works with your third party insurance company or organization directly for payment. This eliminates the burden of you, as the client, to cover upfront costs and go through the tedious task of claiming your therapy session for reimbursement from your insurance provider.
At Vitality Collective, we offer direct billing with several trusted organizations to make your therapy experience with our BC counsellors as seamless and convenient as possible. Each insurance provider requires slightly varying details in order to set up the process.
RCCs and Direct Billing
As of July, 2025, Pacific Blue Cross has approved Registered Clinical Counsellors (RCCs) direct billing. Clients can receive mental health services without needing to cover upfront costs and submit for reimbursement. Will I still need to cover a portion of my therapy upfront?
At Vitality Collective, we work with clients to help them navigate their Pacific Blue Cross coverage and verify what their specific plan covers. While Vitality Collective offers direct billing in partnership with Pacific Blue Cross, depending on a client’s specific coverage, they may be responsible for a portion of the fees related to their therapy sessions. If a client’s plan has a deductible or co-insurance, they may be required to pay those fees upfront in addition to Vitality Collective submitting the bulk of the claim on their behalf to Pacific Blue Cross.
